Our FY25 Impact Report is here

Behind every Nancybird piece is a story we love telling, a collaborating artist, a craftsperson, a considered material choice. Our annual Impact Report is where we share that story in full. Here are the highlights from our 2025 financial year, the highlights, small steps, and what we're working on next.

You can jump to the full report here.

OUR MATERIALS

96.4% of our materials are biodegradable.

We design with end of life in mind from the very first decision‚ choosing natural fibres over synthetics, and mono materials over blends wherever possible.

100% of our leather is vegetable tanned.

No chrome tanning, ever. All of our leather is processed using tannins found in tree bark, and our buffalo leather carries Leather Working Group certification.

41.4% of our cotton is GOTS certified organic.

We are working to increase this every season‚ consolidating fabric orders with suppliers to make certification viable at our scale.

We reduced our use of synthetic blended fibres by 9%.

The simpler a material, the easier it is to recycle at the end of its life.

86.9% of our products now use a single fibre or material.

507 metres of remnant fabric back in our collections.

Offcuts and surplus fabric are incorporated into our range rather than sent to waste.

OUR MAKERS

Every maker who cuts and sews our pieces is known to us, visited in person and have been independently audited.

100% of our production at this level is traced. 84.6% hold current third-party certifications covering fair wages, safe conditions and ethical practices.

We have worked with our two key artisan partners ‚ Mehera Shaw and Kala Swaraj Foundation‚ since 2017.

Kala Swaraj Foundation is a non-profit community of weavers in Central India who hand loom, hand dye and hand weave cotton fabric, mostly from home or in small collectives. They are paid approximately 44% above market rates for handwovens in their region.

This year their weavers produced 3,410 metres of custom fabric‚ fabric that became 1,746 garments.

Mehera Shaw is a Fair Trade certified studio in Jaipur‚ part block printing unit, part cut and sew factory. Our artisan made capsule pieces are printed, cut and sewn entirely within their community. We visited in April 2024 and watched the process firsthand, blocks being carved, quilts being hand stitched, dyes being mixed by hand.

"We love doing something that connects us all on a human level."

OUR ARTISTS

This year we collaborated with six Australian artists, championing their work and bringing it to a new audience. Our collaborating artists received $54,432.85 in licensing fees.

We always bring the artist to the centre, their name on every swing tag, their story told wherever their work appears.

This year we reunited with Sydney-based artist Nicola Woodcock for our Spring Summer 2024 collection, Wanderer, a celebration of the Australian bush through two signature prints: pink flowering gums and fresh alpine daisies. It was our second collaboration with Nicola, following a standout partnership in 2021, and a reflection of our commitment to building long-term creative relationships.

OUR ENERGY

Both our Melbourne studio and warehouse run on solar. This year our panels generated 15,345 kWh, and we exported 10,335 kWh back to the grid. More out than in.

In November 2024 we switched to green power, reducing our carbon emissions from energy use by 77%, far exceeding our own target. From FY26, our grid electricity will be 100% renewable.

OUR COMMUNITY GIVING

As members of 1% for the Planet, we donated $30,206 this year to:

Bush Heritage Australia
Sea Shepherd Australia
Bob Brown Foundation
Yarra Riverkeeper Association
Indigenous Literacy Foundation

WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON NEXT

We're proud of how far we've come, and honest about how far we still have to go.

Increasing certified organic cotton across our range
Reducing air freight through better production scheduling
Natural buttons across almost all FY26 styles
Removing synthetic fusing from our SS27 collection
Deeper traceability further into our supply chain
Reselling, repair and recycling programs planned for FY27

And we can't wait to share what we've been creating with Mehera Shaw for our new home collection and SS26/27 styles, some of the most beautiful work we've made together. More very soon.

We share this Impact Report because our community has always been part of what drives us forward. And because making things well, for people and for the planet, is the only way we know how to do it.
