Artist Spotlight: Floratone with Emily Wright
Our latest collection, Floratone, invites you into a dreamy world where florals emerge from darkness, capturing the beautifully imperfect forms of both native and exotic gardens. Our founder Emily's innovative approach transforms delicate flowers – from plumbago and paper daisies to dahlias – into ethereal prints through a unique scanning process. By carefully arranging flowers against black fabric and capturing their essence through high-resolution scans, Emily has created a collection that blurs the lines between botanical documentation and artistic expression, revealing the subtle beauty of imperfection and natural forms.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE UNIQUE PROCESS AND THE DIRECTIONS THE RESULTS TOOK YOU.
For this collection we were wanting to explore a kind of dreamy, ethereal floral that fades into black. Collecting a mixture of florals – plumbago from outside our studio, paper daisies from my back garden, dahlias and natives from our fav local florists, I scanned the individual flowers with black fabric behind, and carefully pieced them together. I love the mix of natives and exotics, and I like that they’re not super perfect either – there’s some crumpling and creases, it’s not overly polished. We also wanted a softer version and created a hazy blur of this print too.

HOW DID YOU FIND THIS NEW APPROACH OF MIXING CUT FLOWERS AND TECH?
It’s nice to play with new technique – it keeps things feeling fresh! I like how the flowers fade into the darkness – scanning was a really nice way to do this!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT THE RESULTS AND VARYING PLACEMENTS ACROSS THE CLOTHING AND BAGS? WHAT MOOD DOES IT BRING TO THE WEARER.
I think the different ways we’ve utilised this print shows the variety of ways you can wear it – a big bold dahlia centrally placed on a tee, or a hazy floral that becomes more about the colour mix. A black base especially in the cooler months works with everyone’s existing wardrobe too!
