The Nancybird story begins like so many good stories – with a humble beginning.
Melbourne. A little backyard workshop. 2002.
Emily Wright was studying Printmaking at RMIT, but she felt compelled to start a side project. Something satisfying. Something earnest. Something joyful.
She started collecting off-cuts of printed fabric. Sewing them together. Creating a small, heartfelt range of bags and purses.
To Emily’s delight, the collection was met with excitement in the hallowed stores where it was stocked – two of Melbourne’s most iconic, independent boutiques at the time: Fat 52, Fitzroy, and Alice Euphemia in Flinders Lane.
Funny how a side project can become your purpose.
Fifteen years on, Emily’s little enterprise of the heart has grown into a label beloved throughout Australia and across the world. And exceptional bags and purses are just the beginning.
Nancybird is now synonymous with expertly crafted leathergoods, handmade clothing, and endlessly easy, artisanal footwear.
We love change. And we love to evolve. But a few things about Nancybird will remain the same: Nancybird will always be satisfying, earnest and absolutely joyful.
Here’s to the journey.
Thank you for taking it with us.
